The name
Named for the range.
The Tantalus Range is the wall of glaciated peaks across the Squamish valley on the Sea to Sky Highway. The story goes that a climber who had looked at it for years from summits he could reach gave it the name: within sight, out of reach. Our Whistler day trip stops at the lookout.
Say it TAN-tuh-lus
The range as it looks from the Tantalus Lookout on Highway 99. Alpha looks tallest because it is closest. Mount Tantalus, behind it, is the high point.
